So the other day I was just surfing my facebook page and lo and behold, I read a post from Ron Ben Israel that he will be coming to Toronto again in December to teach sugar flowers. If you have never heard of him, check his site here - He is, by far, my #1 fan in the cake decorating business. Everything else I have seen, even those to which I have said "wow" and "holy cow" - have not compared to the workmanship this guy does. I have always wondered what it would be like to meet this guy, to learn from him, to make sugar flowers as delicate and real looking as his....
Well, I checked out the class price - and it was so expensive my heart sank at first. But then, I thought, it is THE Ron Ben Israel teaching you for 3 straight full days!!! You should be glad he is at least teaching and sharing his wealth of knowledge!
There were 16 spots - I chewed on this for about 5 hours. I figured the class would fill in a flash, and I was right. By 11 PM that night, about 12 hours after the class was first advertised, I found out 14 spots were filled leaving 2 only. I chatted with my husband and decided to sign up!
I am so looking forward to this in December. But I'm already feeling overwhelmed too - I suppose most if not all the students will be seasoned bakers and cake decorators, probably with their own businesses...and here I am, a little stay-at-home mom that just simply likes to decorate cakes and who has never taken any formal cake decorating class.
But I must not let my pessimism get the best of me. I know I will enjoy the class. I am sure I will learn a ton and will have fun. And I am oh so grateful to be student #15!!!
Ron, you don't know me yet, but I'm so looking forward to meeting you -- and thank you for continuing to share your knowledge with others ... Not everyone does that! See you in December! ... and let's hope Toronto welcomes you with a relatively warm welcome (i.e. weather wise!)
