1. What cake size should I order?
To determine what you need, my word of advice is to consider:
a) How many people will you be serving treats to?
b) What is your portion size (small, medium, big)?
c) What design do you want? 2D (Flat), 3D Sculpted?
d) Go to http://sandysweets.blogspot.com/2010/01/price-list.html to check our general guide. If you need more information, feel free to contact us directly.
2. Do you bake your treats from scratch?
Most definitely! All our treats are baked fresh to order. We do not use cake mixes.
3. Do you make treats for people with dietary restrictions?
Yes! That is one of Sandy’s Sweets Specialties! We make treats that are food allergen free: dairy-free, egg-free, peanut-free, tree nut-free and soy-free. And no worries, they are all delicious and most people can’t tell the difference when they are not told!
4. How do I order?
(905) 534-1134 and ask for Sandy. You could also contact us through our facebook fan page (Sandy’s Sweets). It’s important to remember that orders are not considered complete until you receive confirmation from us via sandys.sweets@rogers.com
5. How far in advance should I order?
We recommend you place your orders 14 days in advance, especially if you want to order a treat for a weekend. The minimum time required is usually 48 hours, but acceptance of such late orders can’t be guaranteed.
6. Can I make a change to my order?
It depends. We ask that order changes be made no later than 48 hours prior to the original day of pickup. We often begin working on details to your orders several days in advance, and hence, the policy.
7. How do I cancel an order?
Please be advised that a 30% cancellation fee of the balance is due if cancellation is made less than 48 hrs prior to the original pickup date.
8. Do you make deliveries?
Unfortunately, we do not offer delivery services at this point.
9. How long do your treats last?
Generally speaking, you should keep most of our treats at room temperature unless it has perishables like cream, fresh fruits or dairy in them. Storing treats in the fridge often makes treats go stale and dry very quickly. If you must keep them in the fridge, we advise that you take them out of the fridge for a 30 minutes before serving.
Most cakes and cupcakes are best eaten within 3 days. Most can have a shell life of up to 5 days. Ask for details based on your unique order.
Most cakes and cupcakes freeze well. You can also cut cakes into individual portions before freezing, making them quicker to defrost. Once defrosted, though, you should eat them quickly as these treats will not keep quite as long as freshly baked ones.
10. What kind of flavours do you offer?
We offer an array of flavours and continue to develop new ones every month. You can go to http://sandysweets.blogspot.com/2010/01/our-ingredients.html for a complete list of ingredients to our treats.
11. Do you make wedding cakes?
The answer is ‘maybe’. It all depends on what you have in mind. Just contact us to discuss what you have in mind.
12. I have an idea of something I want you to make – will you do it?
Most likely! That is what we do – custom treats! We try our best to meet your needs. Just contact us to discuss what you have in mind and we will tell you whether we are able to help.
13. What’s your payment policy?
We only accept cash at this point. Balance payable at time of pickup.
14. Do you have a shop where I can come buy your treats?
Sandy’s Sweets is a home business. We do not have a store.
15. Is there a minimum order for cupcakes?
For cupcakes, there is a minimum order of 6.
16. What is fondant?
Fondant is a white sugar mass used in different forms for decorating cakes and cookies. Rolled fondant feels like playdough when you work on it at first though its surface dries when exposed to air very quickly.
At Sandy’s Sweets, all our fondant is homemade. We do not use that dry and really sweet ready-made stuff you may have had in the past!
17. What does Single Layer and Double Layer mean?
A layer is basically what most people will think of 1 cake. That is, a batter is baked in one pan. When you order a double layer, your cake is baked in 2 pans, thus, it is taller and will feed more people.
